How To Choose The Right Wheel Spacers For Your Vehicle

June 13, 2025

This guide will take you know the essential knowledge of wheel spacers size, ensuring you choose the right wheel spacers for your ride.

STEP 1 Measuring the wheel gap

The wheel gap is the amount of space between the inner fender lip and the outside edge of your wheel tires or rims. It will help you find the proper thickness. Too thin, you will still have wheel/caliper interference. Too thick, the wheel rims or tires will hit the fenders. The common thickness is 12mm, 20mm, 25mm, 1 inch, 1.25 inch and 2 inch.

To keep from rubbing on the fender, we would recommend going with a spacer that is a smaller than the measured distance.

STEP 2 Measuring the central bore

A properly centered wheel is crucial for preventing vibrations, particularly at higher speeds, and ensuring the wheel is securely mounted on the vehicle. To ensure your wheel spacers fit properly and safely, your vehicle's central bore is the same as (or smaller than) the spacer's.

STEP 3 Measuring the bolt pattern

The common bolt pattern is 4 Lug, 5 Lug, 6 Lug and 8 Lug.

4 Lug Wheel Spacers: A Middle of two holes directly across from one another

5 Lug Wheel Spacers: Back of the hole to the center of the second bolt hole

6 Lug Wheel Spacers: Same as 4-lug

8 Lug Wheel Spacers: Same as 4-lug

For example, if you measure 114.3 mm, your bolt pattern is 5x114.3.

STEP 4 Determine your vehicle’s thread pitch

Make sure that the bolts’ threads are compatible with the threads on your car. The common thread pitch is 9/16", 12x1.25, 12x1.5 and 14x1.5. If your vehicle uses M14x1.5 bolts, you should choose spacers with M14x1.5 bolts. Thread length should equal the thread length of standard bolts plus any additional spacer thickness if you require longer bolts.
